Freedom

In this tutorial I am using the art of Katherine Barber.
You require a license to use Katherine’s tubes,
which you can purchase here.

I am using a very pretty scrap kit called “Symphony” by

You will also require a mask.
Again I am using Monti’s circle mask
which you can get here.

Open a new transparent canvas 550 by 500 pixels and flood fill with white.

Make a new layer, select all, choose one of the papers, I used CBJ_Symp_paper2, paste into the selection, de-select and apply your mask. Resize 85% and lower the opacity to 50.

Open CBJ_Stars_Round and paste as a new layer. Resize 55% and unsharp mask (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask, radius and clipping on 5, strength 50). Apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 50, blur 3.

Open CBJ_Symp_LeafRound and paste as a new layer, mirror and flip.  Resize 65% and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 60, blur 5.

Open CBJ_GlitterRainbow and paste as a new layer. Rotate to the right 80% and resize 60%. Drag down below the leaf frame layer and place in position. Erase the parts that are outside the leaf round layer.

Open CBJ_Symp_Drops and paste as a new layer. Resize 40% and unsharp mask as before. Apply the same drop shadow as the stars. Place in position and erase any that show outside the leaf round layer.

Open CBJ_Symp_Lillyflower and paste as a new layer. Mirror, resize 40%, place in position and apply the same drop shadow as the leaf round layer.

Open CBJ_Symp_Feather and paste as a new layer. Resize 90% and place in position. There is already a drop shadow on the layer so no need to apply one.

Open CBJ_Symp_Toadstall and paste as a new layer. Duplicate, resize the duplicate 70% and mirror. Place in position and apply the last drop shadow to each layer.

Open CBJ_Symp_Birdcage and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, mirror and place in position between the two toadstalls. Apply the last drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize as required and apply the last drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Symp_Hummingbird01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 35%  and duplicate. Mirror the duplicate, unsharp mask as before on both layers, position nicely on your tag and apply the last drop shadow to each.

Open CBJ_Symp_Hummingbird02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 35% and duplicate. Mirror the duplicate, rotate the original bird 20 degrees to the right, unsharp mask as before on both layers, position and apply the last drop shadow.

Crop your tag as required. This is quite a small tag and will probably not require any resizing.

Add your copyright information and text. Export as a jpeg with compression set to 5.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.

Jasmin

In this tutorial I am using the art of Dominic Marco.
You require a license to use Dominic’s art.
I purchased mine from CILM.
Dominic now sells his tubes/licenses independently
here, although his older work is not currently available.

I am using a mini kit called Jasmin by
The kit is part of her beautiful Fairytales set.
The kits can be purchased separately or you can purchase the full set at a discount.

You will also need a mask.
I am using Monti’s circle mask again,
you can get it here.

An Arabic looking font works best with this tag.
I am using Psuedo Saudi which is a free font.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 550 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers, I used pd-pp05. On your canvas, select all, make a new layer and paste the paper into the selection. Apply your mask. Resize the mask layer 85%.

Open pd-frame-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60% and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 70, blur 10. Move over to the left.

Open pd-moon and paste as a new layer. Again resize 60%, apply the same drop shadow and position over the frame using my tag for reference.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize as required, place in position and apply the drop shadow. If you are a using the same tube as me or another part body tube, it will have a harsh line at the bottom. Don’t worry about that, we will fix it later.

Open pd-stars-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%, drag down below your frame layer and place in position.

Open pd-bling-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%, unsharp mask to brighten it up as resizing will have made it a bit blurry (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask, radius and clipping 5, strength 50), place in position.

Open pd-sparkle-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60% and place in position so you can see the sparkle over the stars layer. Duplicate this layer and move it so it shows to the right hand side of your tube.

Open pd-lamp and paste as a new layer. Bring the layer to the top, resize 35%, apply the drop shadow and place in position.

Open pd-magic and paste as a new layer. Mirror and resize 45%. Position the magic so its coming out of the lamp spout and then drag down below the lamp layer.

Now we want to get rid of that harsh line at the bottom of the tube. Open your erasor tool and put it on the following settings.

Shape – just keep it on the default shape.

Size – 50

Hardness – 5

Step – 10

Density – 100

Thickness – 100

Rotation – 10

Opacity – 10.

Make your tube layer active and run the brush along that harsh line until it blends in with the mask.

Crop your tag and resize as required. Apply your copyright information.

Now for the font. First we will make a pattern for the background. Activate your mask layer, copy and paste as a new image. Use your crop tool and roughly crop a square from the centre, something like my screenshot below.

Go to effects – image effects – seamless tiling, set it on the default settings with tiling method – corner, direction – bidirectional and linear checked. Click ok.

Set your background to pattern and find your mask pattern, settings should be angle – 0 and scale 100.  Set your foreground to white, width 2. Write your text and apply the drop shadow but changing the vertical and horizontal to 2 and the blur to 5.

Export your tag as a jpeg with compression set to 5.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.

My Strange World - Animated

In this tutorial I am using the art of one of my favourite artists
Suzanne Woolcott.
You require a license to use Suzanne’s tubes
which you can get here.

The scrap kit I am using is called “Cool Skullz” by
It really is a cool kit!

I have used two masks,
Monti’s Circle mask here
and Gems mask 11 which is in Set 1 here.

The font I have used is DK Porcupine Pickle which is a free font.

If you want to do the animation, you will need Animation Shop.

If you have been following my tutorials, you will know that I put a lot of emphasis on shadows and sharpening. As this tutorial is animated and deep shadows do not work  well on a gif image, I am using a tight shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5 on all the elements. So when I say apply the drop shadow, that is the shadow I mean lol. Regarding sharpening, most elements in this tutorial will require sharpening as we are resizing them very small and of course, anything that is rotated needs sharpening as both cause blurriness. To sharpen its – adjust – sharpen – unsharp mask, settings I used are radius and clipping 5, strength 50. I will not tell you every time to do this, it needs to come automatic to you.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 x 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open frame02_BAC_CoolSkullz and paste as a new layer. Open
Paper12_BAC_CoolSkulls. Click inside your frame with your magic wand, expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below your frame and paste the paper into the selection. Go back to your frame layer and apply the drop shadow.

Open Path_BAC_CoolSkullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 70% and apply the drop shadow. Position your path so its coming out of the frame. Check out my Pirouette tutorial for a neat way to do this.

Open String_BAC_CoolSkullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 95% and drag down below your frame and paper layers. Place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Card_BAC_CoolSkullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 55%, rotate 15 degrees to the right. Place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Flower05_BAC_Coolskullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Wings_BAC_CoolSkullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 85% and rotate 10 degrees to the left. Place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Cat_BAC_CoolSkullz, click on top path layer and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30% and mirror. If you are doing the animation, do not unsharp mask on the cat (this is simply because it makes his eyes too bright white and then they don’t colour well). Position him walking along the path, apply the drop shadow and erase part of his tail so it looks like he is walking out from the frame.

Open Crown_BAC_CoolSkullz, click on your top frame layer and paste as a new layer. Resize 50% and rotate to the left 15 degrees. Place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize as required, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Now open some of the other elements, resize them and position them around your frame below the tube. There are plenty of cool things to choose from!

I used:

Tape_BAC_CoolSkullz – resized 40%
Skull02_BAC_CoolSkullz – resized 25%
ZippedLips_BAC_CoolSkullz – resized 25%
Button01_BAC_CoolSkullz – resized 20%

Don’t forget to unsharpen and apply the shadow!

Open Bag_BAC_CoolSkullz and paste as a new layer. Bring the layer to top, resize 50% and place in position at the front of the path. Apply the drop shadow.

Open SkullChain02_BAC_CoolSkulls and paste as a new layer. Resize 20%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Hat_BAC_CoolSkullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Bottle_BAC_Coolskullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, place in position below your tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open TeddyBear_BAC_Coolskullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, rotate to the right 10 degrees, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Candle01_BAC_Coolskullz and paste as a new layer. Resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Click on your bottom white background layer and make a new layer. Flood fill with colour #eddcd3 and apply Monti’s circle mask. Resize the mask 90% and move over slightly to the left.

Open Paper02_BAC_CoolSkullz. Resize to 550 x 550 pixels and apply Gem’s mask. Copy and paste as a new layer and place in position on the right.

Crop your tag and resize if required. Apply your copyright information and text. Export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 if you do not wish to continue with the animation.

Animation:

Go back to your cat layer and duplicate it, hide the original copy for now and we will work on the duplicate.

Zoom in on the tag, make it really large so you can see the pixels, I zoomed in 300%. Make your foreground colour #edb01d or whatever colour you would like your cat’s eyes to flash.

We are going to use the “change to target” brush to colour in the cats eyes. I have done a screen shot below to show you where the brush is in case you can’t find it. I am using PSP X3, in the old Jasc versions it will be in a different place.

Your brush needs to be on the following settings:

Shape – round
Size – 3
Hardness – 50
Step – 10
Density – 100
Thickness – 100
Rotation – 0
Opacity – 70
Mode – colour.

Now take the brush and very carefully paint in the cat’s eyes with the new colour. There is no need to worry about going over the black pupils as black will not re-colour. Do it in little clicks around the edges so that if you go over, you can just hit the back arrow to remove that part. It should look like this:

Once you are happy with your colouring, zoom back out. Right click on the tag, copy merged and paste it as a new animation in Animation Shop. Back in Paintshop, close out the cat with the painted eyes and open the original one. Right click again, copy merged and paste in Animation Shop “before current frame”.  On the unpainted eyes frame, change the frame properties to 60 (animation – frame properties), on the painted eyes frame, change the frame properties to 20.

Run your tag through the optimization wizard and save as a gif.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.

Guitar Hero

In this tutorial I am using the art of Verymany.
You require a license to use Verymany's tubes
which can be purchased from Pics for Design.

I am using a fabulous kit by Pimp’d Designz called
“EMOlution”.
I really love this kit!

I have used two filters, Penta.com’s Color Dot
and Eye Candy 4, Gradient Glow.
The Gradient Glow is used on the text only.

You will also need a mask.
I used Becky’s mask 023.
Becky no longer has her site but allows her masks to be shared.
You can get it here.

If you want to do the text as I have, you will need a fattish font.
I used Bodini, which is a free font, on italic.

A note regarding Penta.com filters - if you have Filters Unlimited installed,
you will need to import the filter into that to use it.
You can find instructions on importing filters here

Open a new transparent canvas 650 x 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open pd-frame-05 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%.

Open your tube and drag it below your frame layer, duplicate it twice so you have three copies, mirror/resize as required and position one copy in each section of the frame. Apply a drop shadow to each layer, vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 70, blur 5.  Go back to your frame layer and select the interior of the first frame with your magic wand, expand the selection by 5, invert the selection. Click on the tube layer inside the frame to make it active and delete the excess. Do the same with the other 2 tube layers. Close off your frame and background layers and merge the three tube layers together.

Open the two closed layers, go back to your frame layer again and this time select the interior of all three parts (your magic wand mode needs to be set on add (shift) to enable you to select all three parts), make a new layer below your tube layer and flood fill with white. Merge the tube layer down onto the white layer. Apply Penta.com Color Dot with the default settings. Go back to your frame layer and apply the same drop shadow as before.  Merge the frame layer down onto the tube/white layer.

Open pd-stitch03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 85% and position on the bottom of the frame. Unsharp mask (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask, radius and clipping 5, strength 50). Apply a drop shadow vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 70, blur 3.

Open some of the elements in the kit and decorate your frame. I used:

Pd-skull-01, resized 33%.

Pd-min-glasses, resized 50% and rotated 10 degrees to the left with mask unsharped as before.

Pd-kiss, resized 35% and rotated 10 degrees to the right with mask unsharped as before.

Apply a drop shadow to each element the same as you did for the stitch.

Open your tube again, paste as a new layer, resize as required and place into position. Apply the same drop shadow as we did for the frame.

Open pd-light-spots-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, drag below your tube layer and place in position.

Open pd-sparkle-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 95%, position towards the right hand side of your tag and drag down below your merged frame layer.

Open one of the papers, I used pd-pp08. Resize the paper to 500 x 500 pixels. Apply your mask and then apply the Pena.com Color Dot filter on the same settings. Position towards the left hand side of your tag. Lower the opacity, I set mine to 50.

Open pd-print-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%, place in position and apply the last drop shadow.

Crop and resize your tag as required.

Choose a background colour and write your text. Apply the Penta.com Color Dot filter as before. Apply Eye Candy 4, gradient glow with the following settings:

                                    Basic:

                                    Glow width – 3
                                    Soft corners – 25
                                    Overall opacity – 100

                                    Draw only outside selection checked.

                                    Color:   White

Apply the last drop shadow.

Add your copyright info and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. If you have any questions, please email me here.

Look after my Heart

**********

Look after my Heart

For this tutorial you will need a face tube and a body tube.
I am using the art of Lady Mishka.
You require a license to use Lady Mishka's tubes
which you can purchase from

I am using a fabulous scrap kit "Damn Love"by

This kit is a real bargain as it includes two of
Schnegge’s beautiful poser tubes as well as
many other elements I have not used!
You can get the kit here.

You will also need a mask.
I am using one of my favourite masks,
Monti’s circle mask.
You can get it here.

Drop shadows are very important in tags to give depth. We are going to use two different drop shadows in this tutorial, the first one with the settings vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 70 and blur 10, I will refer to as drop shadow 1. The second drop shadow, with the settings vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5, I will refer to as drop shadow 2.

Open a new transparent canvas, 650 x 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open Heart03_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Position towards the top, right hand side of your canvas and apply drop shadow 1.

Open MeshHeart_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Resize 55% and position slightly lower and to the right of the first heart. Apply drop shadow 2 (it needs to be a tighter shadow to show up the mesh).

Open Heart01_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, position over the top of the other two hearts as in my tag and apply drop shadow 1.

Open Stitches_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Resize 65%, place in position over the hearts and apply drop shadow 2.

Open BlackWidow_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Resize 40% and mirror. Place in position and apply drop shadow 2.

Open Frame05_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Resize 85%. Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10. Make a new layer below your frame layer and flood fill with black. Mirror your close up tube, copy and paste as a new layer, position  inside your frame, invert the selection and delete the excess. Lower the opacity to around 35. Go back to your frame layer and apply drop shadow 1.

Open Keyring_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Resize 40% and apply drop shadow 2. Position the key ring over one of the spikes in the frame and erase part of it so it looks like its hooked over the spike.

Open Arrow_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Resize 95% and rotate 30 degrees to the right. Unsharp mask (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask, radius and clipping 5, strength 30). Place in position and apply drop shadow 1.

Open your tube, resize if necessary, place in position and apply drop shadow 1.

Open one of the papers. I used paper13. Click on your bottom white background layer, make a new layer, select all and paste the paper into the selection. Apply your mask and resize 90%.

Open D├ęcor01_DamnLove_Schnegge and paste as a new layer. Resize 70% and position down the bottom using my tag for reference. Duplicate this layer, flip and mirror it and position at the top of the tag. Erase any parts you don’t want showing and apply drop shadow 2 to each layer.

Crop your tag and resize if required. Add your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5.

Candy Angel

This is my second tutorial using Grunge & Glitter's new scrap kit
Mishka Maniac.

I am using the art of Lady Mishka.
You require a license to use Lady Mishka's tubes which I purchased at
Lady Mishka now sells her tubes/licenses at Scraps and the City.

You will also need a mask.
I am using Monti’s circle mask which you can get here.

Font I used is Angelina which is a free font.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 650 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open frame3 and paste as a new layer. Resize 84% and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open frame6 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70% and apply the drop shadow but changing the vertical and horizontal to 2. Place in position over the top of the first frame.

Open wingedcrownheart and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, apply the last drop shadow and place in position.

Open ribbon4 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%, rotate 10 degrees to the left, unsharp mask (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask, radius and clipping 5, strength 50), apply the last drop shadow and paste into position. We want to wrap the ribbon around the wingedcrownheart layer. To do this, take your rectangle selection tool, make sure the feathering is on 0 and draw a selection around the two ends of the ribbon as in my screenshot below, go to edit – cut. Select none. Right click and paste as a new layer. Line the ribbon parts up and then drag the centre part down below the wingedcrownheart layer.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize if required, apply the last drop shadow and position.

Open one of the papers, I used paper 11. Apply your mask, copy and paste as a new layer on top of the white background layer. Resize 68% and place in position.

If you use the same tube as I have and don’t want a bare nipple, open stars, make a selection around one, copy and paste as a new layer, resize, apply the drop shadow used on frame3 and place in position.

Crop your tag and resize if required. Add your copyright information and text. Export as a jpeg with compression set to 5.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please mail me here.

Lady Mishka's Friend

In this tutorial I am using the wonderful new scrap kit by
Grunge & Glitter called Mishka Maniac.
Again this kit is jam packed with goodies.
I have written two tutorials with the kit
without using the same element twice
and there are still tons of things I have not used!!

You will need a body tube and a face tube.
I am using a Lady Mishka tube
which was a free gift from Lady Miskha and does
not require a license.
Lady Miskha sells her tubes at Scraps and the City.

You will also require a mask.
I used Monti’s circle mask which you can get here.

I used the font Last Words
which is a free font.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open frame10 and paste as a new layer. Resize 75%.

Open you face tube, paste as a new layer, mirror and resize if required and position below the frame.
