Maiko

Maiko

In this tutorial you will need a body tube and a close up face tube.
I am using the beautiful art of Alicia Mujica.
You require a special license to use Alicia’s art,
you can get one here.

I am using a lovely scrap kit called “Asian Persuasion” by
You can get the kit here.

I used two masks in this tag, Insatiable Dreams mask 565, here
and Monti’s circle mask, here.

I used the Japanese paper filter in Filters Unlimited 2.
If you don’t have Filters Unlimited, you can choose a difference texture.

Font used in P22ChaiTea.

**********

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing and rotating, essential for a good looking tag (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 50).

Drop shadow used throughout is vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open sb_pmt_asian-persuasion-pp10. Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection and apply the Insatiable Dream’s mask. Resize the mask layer 80%.

Open sb_pmt_asian-persuasion-pp4 and copy. Again, make a new layer on your canvas, your selection should still be there, paste the paper into the selection and apply Monti’s circle mask. De-select and resize this mask layer also by 80%. Merge the two mask layers together.

Open sb_pmt_asian-persuasion_frame4 and paste a a new layer. Rotate 90 degrees top the right, mirror and resize 58%.

Take your selection tool set on rectangle, feather 0 and draw an oblong rectangle as in my screenshot below. Make a new layer below the frame layer and flood fill with a colour from your tube, I used a light grey. Do not de-select.

Open your close up tube, duplicate and close the original. Mirror, copy and paste on your canvas. Position nicely inside the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube.  De-select.

Merge the tube layer down onto the coloured layer below and apply Filters Unlimited 2 – Paper Textures – Japanese Paper. If you don’t have this filter you can use another texture,  paintshop’s blinds effect looks nice. Go back to the frame layer and apply the drop shadow. Close off your background layer and the merged mask layer, merge visible and move over to the right. Re-open your closed layers.

Open your body tube and paste as a new layer. Resize as required, place in position on the left of the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_asian_persuasion-hope and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%.  Draw an oblong around one of the characters and “promote selection to layer”. Go back to the original layer and hit delete, you will now have each character on a separate layer. Drag these layers down below the body tube layer and place in position on the left, apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open sb_pmt_asian-persuasion-hanging lamp, paste as a new layer and bring to the top. Resize 30%, place in position on the frame and apply the drop shadow. Erase the top part of the lamp out so it looks like its hanging from below the bamboo leaves.

Open sb_pmt_asian-persuasion-decor1 and paste as a new layer. Resize also 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_asian-persuasion-paperflower2 and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_asian-oersuasion-paperflower1 and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of all your elements and when you are happy with them, crop your tag and resize if required, apply your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here and of course don’t forget to send me your result for the gallery!

Black Cats and Potions

In this tutorial I am using the art of Suzanne Woolcott.
You require a license to use Suzanne’s art,
you can get yours here.

I am using a funky Halloween kit called “Black Cats and Potions” by
Unfortunately this kit is no longer available but I have left the
tut up for people that already have it or have a substitute.
I used Template 1 of a set of awesome new Halloween templates by Stef and Dwana.
You can get the templates here.

You will also need a mask, I used Becky’s mask 034.
Becky's site is closed at the moment but she allows her masks to be uploaded for tutorials,
you can get it here

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing and rotating, essential for a good looking tag (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 30).

Drop shadow used throughout is vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open the template, duplicate and close the original. Delete the top 3 layers and the grey rectangle layer. Resize the template to 600 pixels wide (make sure resize all layers is checked) and then enlarge your canvas to 700 pixels by 600 pixels.

Open the bottom background layer on the template and flood fill with white.

Click on  “rectangle” layer to activate it, select all – selections float – selections de-float – selections modify smooth, change the settings to mine in the screen shot below and hit ok.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used tk-blackcatsandpotions-paper1.  Paste the paper as a new layer on your canvas and resize 80%,  invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess paper, de-select and apply the drop shadow. Delete the original template rectangle layer.

Activate “circles” layer and do the same thing as you did for the rectangle layer. I used tk-blackcatsandpotions-brownpaper on the circles layer.

Now do the same with the “ellipse rectangle” layer, I used tk-blackcatsandpotions-orangepaper on this layer.  Don't forget your drop shadows. When you have done, move this layer down until it is just above “text” layer.

Click on “glitter frame” layer layer and apply the drop shadow. Do the same on the “bloody rectangle” layer.

Open tk-blackcatsandpotions-ribbon-star and paste as a new layer. Apply the drop shadow.

Open one of the beaded string layers, I used tk-blackcatsandpotions-beadedstring3, paste as a new layer, resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-blackcatsandpotions-paper-blackpaper-tree and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-blackcatsandpotions-cauldron and paste as a new layer. Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-blackcatsandpotions-cat and paste as a new layer. Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk_blackcatsandpotions-witchhat2 and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as required, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-blackcatsandpotions-poisonbottle1-dragonsbreath and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, drag down below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-blackcatsandpotions-poisonbottle2-toadvenum and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open another of the papers for the mask layer and copy, I used tk-blackcatsandpotions-paper2. Click on your white background layer to activate it, make a new layer, select all, paste the paper into the selection and apply the mask.

Check the position of all your elements and if you are happy with them, crop your tag and resize if required. Add your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here. I would love to see your result and include it in my gallery!

Go back to the frame layer and apply the drop shadow, then merge it down onto the paper layer.

Open sb_pmt_ascension_star and paste as a new layer. Resize 90%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as required, place in position and apply the drop shadow. I duplicated my tube, erased the wings from the top layer, reduced the opacity on the second layer and merged the two together so the wings were a little transparent.

Open sb_pmt_ascension_swirl and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, drag down below the tube layer and place in position, apply the drop shadow and erase any that shows at the bottom of the tube.

Open sb_pmt_ascension_cloud1, paste as a new layer and bring to the top. Resize 60% and position over the bottom of the tube. Duplicate this layer, mirror the duplicate, drag down below the tube layer and position behind the top part of the tube. Duplicate again and move down so its behind the centre part of the tube.

Open sb_pmt_ascension_sparkles1, paste as a new layer and bring to the top. Resize 80% and place in position.

Open sb_pmt_bubble1 and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, place in position and apply a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 50, blur 3.

Crop your tag and resize if required. Add your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions or would like your result featured in my gallery, please email me here. I would love to see your result!

Lil Witchy

In this tutorial I am using a really cute little scrap kit called
“Lil Witchy” by Pimp’d Designz.
You can get the kit here.
The kit includes the little witch girl.
Thank you Cora!

You will also require a mask,
I used Insatiable Dreams  mask 191, here.

Font used Mia's Scribblings,
which is a free front, you can get it here.

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing/rotating to take away the blurriness (effects – sharpen – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 50).

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used pd-pp-07. Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection and apply your mask. Resize 90%.

Open pd-frame-04 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70. Select the interior of each part of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10. Open your paper again or choose another one and copy, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection. Apply a drop shadow to the frame, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open pd-tree and paste as a new layer. Resize 65%, drag down below the frame and paper layers and place in position, apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-mesh, paste as a new layer and bring to the top. Rotate 90 degrees to the right, resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-spider and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-button-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, place in position on the top left hand corner of the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-fence and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-bat-string and paste as a new layer. Resize also 70%, hang the bats on the fence and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-cauldron and paste as a new layer. Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-broom and paste as a new layer. Resize 15%, rotate 10 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-cat and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-lil-witch and paste as a new layer. Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the position of all your elements an erase any part of the tree that is showing at the bottom of the frame.

Open pd-sparkle-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%. Drag down until the layer is just above the mask layer and position towards the top. Apply a drop shadow, this time vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 70, blur 3.

Open pd-print-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70% and place in position towards the top, right hand side. Duplicate this layer and move over so some sparkles show on the left hand side, then erase the rest of the sparkles, just leaving the few on the left. Apply the last drop shadow to both layers.

Open pd-sparkle-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80% and place in position so its showing below the top, left hand corner of the frame (you may need to bring the layer to the top to position and then move down again).

Crop your tag and resize as required. Add your text and copyright information if you have used a tube. If you have not used a tube, give credit to the designer.

Angelic Tears

In this tutorial I am using the work of Zindy S.D. Nielsen.
You require a license to use Zindy’s art,
you can get one here.

I am using one of a free set of cluster frames from
These frames are made from a beautiful collab kit called
“Our Special Angel”
which has been put together to raise money for a very special cause.
Please check it out here.

You will require a mask, I used Gems' Mask 206, here.

You will also need Animation Shop, Penta.com Color Dot filter here
and DSB Flux bright noise filter, here.

Font used is Estrya’s Handwriting by Jellyka.
This is a free font and you can get it here

Open OSAclusterJoSchn, duplicate and close the original. Increase your canvas size to 600 x 600 pixels with the frame centred. Make a new layer, flood fill with white and send to the bottom.

Put your background colour on white and your foreground colour on #c8d5de and make a gradient as in my screen shot below.

Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 25. Make a new layer below the frame layer and flood fill with the gradient. Do not de-select.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize as required and position nicely in the frame, invert the selection and delete the excess, de-select. Apply a drop shadow to your tube, I used vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5. Close off your white background layer, merge visible and re-open the background layer.

Make a new layer below the frame and flood fill with color #5b839b. Apply the mask and resize 95%.

Duplicate the mask layer and apply Penta.com color dot filter on the default settings to the duplicate. Merge the two mask layers together.

Duplicate the merged mask layer twice so you have 3 copies, close of the second and third copy and apply DSB Flux bright noise on the first copy with intensity set to 20 and “mix” checked. Close off the first copy and apply the same filter on the second copy hitting the mix button once. Do the same for the third copy.

Crop your tag and apply your copyright information and text.

Right click on your tag and “copy merged”, paste in animation shop as a “new animation”.

Close off the current mask layer and open the second, right click and copy merged again, click on your tag in animation shop and “paste before current frame”.

Do the same with the last mask layer.

Open the optimization wizard, on the first page you should have Animated GIF file checked, click on next, on the second page click on “optimize”, on the page that opens check the box “Optimized Octree”, click on ok (we need to do this as we need to cut down the size of the animation otherwise it is huge), carry on with the optimization clicking next and finish and save your tag.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions or if you would like to send me your tag to feature in my gallery, please email me here, I would love to see your result!
