Start your Engines!

In this tutorial I used the art of Kenny Kiernan.
You need a license to use Kenny’s art,
I purchased mine from Artistic Minds Inc.
but they are now available here.

The kit I used is a fun kit called “Start Your Engines”
and is by SkulliezSkrapz.
You can get it here.
Thank you Danielle.

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass’ mask 84, here.

Font is Breezed Caps, here.

Don’t forget to sharpen up those elements after resizing; check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 550 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used dcorbitt_startyourengines_pp2.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 95%.

Open dcorbitt_startyourengines_racetrack and paste as a new layer.  Resize 53%.

Open dcorbitt_startyour engines_sp1 and copy.  Select the interior of the race track with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  We will come back to this later when we have the rest of our elements in position.

Open dcorbitt_startyourengines_checkeredflags and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, drag down below the race track and paper layer below it, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize as needed (I resized 85%) place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open decorbitt_startyourengines_lanyard1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, drag down below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open dcorbitt_startyour engines_racinglights and paste as a new layer.  Resize 43%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open dcorbitt_startyourengines_tire and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open dcorbitt_startyourengines_ribbon.  Mirror, resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open dcorbitt_startyourengines_racecar5, paste as a new layer and bring to the top. Resize 85%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Paste your tube again as a new layer and mirror it, drag it down so its between the frame and paper layer, resize if needed (I resized 85% again), place in position.  Select the interior of the race track with your magic wand as before and expand the selection by 20, invert, activate the tube and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect.  Lower the opacity of the tube to around 50 and apply the drop shadow to the frame.

When you are done, crop your tag, add your copyright information and text and then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
