Old News

In this tutorial I have again used the gorgeous art of Barbara Jensen.
You need a license to use Barbara's art.
This tube is from her latest pack and you can get it at her store here.

The kit I used is called "Old News" and is by
The kit is also available from Barbara's store.

You will also need a mask, I used Vix' Big Mask 017, here
(click on masks on the right and scroll down, its in Big Masks Set 2)
and the 20/20 mask, here.

Font is Reisling, here.

Remember to sharpen up the elements after resizing/rotating as otherwise they will look a little blurry; check out my tips and tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open p5 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply Vix' mask.  Resize 95%.

Open the close up of the tube, duplicate and close the original.  Make your layer options, merge visible, apply the drop shadow and then apply the 20/20 mask.  If you don’t have a close up you can crop your main tube.  Paste the masked tube as a new layer, resize it as needed and move over to the left.  I resized my tube 60% and mirrored it

Open e20 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, move over to the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open your main tube, paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  If you are using one of Barbara's tubes, open it, duplicate and close the original, make your layer options, copy merged and paste.  I resized my tube 70% and mirrored it.

Open e1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, drag down below the main tube and place in position.

Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below it and fill with a dark grey, I used #535353.  Do not deselect.

Copy your tube again and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position in the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame and the tube and set the blend mode on the tube to "Overlay".  I used the main tube resize 80%.

Open e27 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e23 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e13 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e1, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Mirror, resize 40% and rotate 30 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e8 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e10 and paste as a new layer.   Mirror, resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e9 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e16 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e28 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35% and rotate 90 degrees to the right.  Place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e17 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open e29 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35% and rotate 30 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments, when you are done, crop your tag, add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
