Christmas Cookie

In this tutorial I again used the art of Barbara Jensen for
which you need a license,
available from her store here.

The kit is called "Cookies for Barb" and is by
This is a gorgeous kit with some lovely elements and
is also available exclusively at Barbara's store.

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass' mask 84, here.

Font of choice.

Remember to sharpen up your elements after resizing/rotating as it makes them a little blurry; check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open paper 5 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.

Open element 14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%.

Open paper 6 and copy.  Select the interior of the element with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it and paste the paper into the selection.  Deselect and apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Open your tube and paste it as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  If you are using one of Barbara's layered tubes, open it, duplicate and close the original, choose your layer options then copy merged and paste on your canvas.  I resized my tube 80%.

Open element 6 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, drag down below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 1 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 60% and place in position.

Select the interior of element 1 with your magic wand and expand the selection by 2, make a new layer below it and flood fill with black.  Do not deselect.

Open the tube again and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, position inside the element, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect.  Lower the opacity of the tube to around 65 and apply the drop shadow to the frame.  I used the same tube but without the hat and didn’t resize.

Open element 4 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 17, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 50%, duplicate and mirror the duplicate, place both elements into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open element 19 and paste as a new layer, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 4 again and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 24 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and duplicate.   Rotate one star 10 degrees to the left and position on the left and duplicate the second 15 degrees to the right and position on the right.  Apply the drop shadow to each star.

Open element 9 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, place in position on the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 27 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 28%, place in position on the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 20 and paste as a new layer.  Flip, resize 60% and duplicate, mirror the duplicate, place both elements into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open element 25 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 26 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40% and mirror, drag down below the teddy, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 33 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 20%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 8, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 32 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 13 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open element 15 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments, when you are done, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here and don’t forget to send me your result, I love to see them and include them in the gallery!
