Land of the Rising Sun

I have left this tutorial on for reference
but it appears unfortunately that Lina's kits
are no longer available.

In this tutorial I used the art of Marco Guaglione.
I obtained my license to use this tube from PSP Tubes Emporium,
unfortunately Marco no longer sells his art as tubes for PSP hobbyists
but the kit includes two nice poser tubes.

The kit I have used is a really beautiful free to use kit by
Lina’s Designz called “Little China Girl”, you can get it here
(you will need to go back a few pages to find it or use the search box).
Thank you Lina, this is a gorgeous kit!

You will also need a mask, I used Gem’s mask 22, here.

Font is Bonzai, here.

Your elements will need to be sharpened after resizing as this causes them to be a little blurry; if you are not familiar with sharpening, check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open LD_Asian_Festival_Paper(2) and copy.   Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 80%.

Open LD_Little_China_Doll_Dressing_Shade and paste as a new layer.  Resize 22%, move over to the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Cherry_Blossoms and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35%, drag down below the Dressing Shade, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Rug, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 18%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Statue(2) and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Vase and paste as a new layer.  Resize 15%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Kokeshi_Doll and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Frame(4) and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40% and place in position.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Paper(6) and paste as a new layer.  Drag down below the frame, resize 50% and position nicely in the frame.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, invert it, activate the paper and hit delete to remove the excess.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame and merge it down onto the paper.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Umbrella and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 85%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Lamp and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Cat and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube, paste a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers so far and make any necessary adjustments.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Fire_Dragon and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, drag down below the tube and place in position.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Plant, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 5%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Flower and paste as a new layer.  Resize also 5%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Cherry_Blossom  and LD_Little China_Girl_Cherry_Blossom(2) and paste each as a new layer, resize them 8%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Crop your tag and add your copyright information.

Choose two colours from your tag for your font, I used #e1b23a for the foreground and #b91805 for the background.  Open the font, set your stroke width to 2.0 and type your name, convert to a raster layer.  Go to Selections – Select all – Selections Float – Selections Defloat - Selections Modify – Contract, set the number of pixels to 2. Make a new layer, go to Effects – 3D effects – Cutout, set the Horizontal and Vertical to 2, Opacity 80 and Blur 3, click on OK, deselect.  Merge this layer down onto the name and apply the drop shadow.

When you are done, export your tag as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy go back to the moon-bats layer and duplicate it.  Drag the duplicate up above the tree. Erase the moon from the top copy so you will have the moon below the tree and the bats above it.  You don’t need to be really fussy over this, it will all blend in.  Apply the drop shadow to the bottom copy of moon-bats.

When you are done, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

You can get the kit here.

My usual reminder to you to sharpen up your elements after resizing/rotating. This is essential for a good looking tag, otherwise it will be a little blurry.  For more info, check out my Tips and Tricks page.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 x 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Set your foreground colour to white and your background colour to #747b88 and make a gradient using the settings in my screen shot below.

Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10.  Make a new layer below the frame and fill it with the gradient and then apply a Gaussian blur with radius set to 10.  Do not deselect.

Duplicate your tube, drag it down between the frame and gradient layers, place in position, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube, deselect.  Lower the opacity on the tube to around 60 and apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Open sb_pmt_TFOTA_greenery2 and paste as a new layer.  This should be just above the frame.  Resize 50%, place in position on the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Go back to greenery 2, open your oblong selection tool and draw a selection around the bottom part of the greenery.  Hit delete.  Right click and “Paste as a New Layer”.  The cut off part of the greenery will paste as a new layer.  Bring this to the top and join the two parts of the element back up.

Open sb_pmt_TFOTA_rose 2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 15%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open the dwarves, paste each as a new layer and resize 25%. Place them in position on your tag to your liking and apply the drop shadow to each.

When you are ready to crop your tag, if you are going to save your tag as a png, make a new base layer and fill it with a dark colour so you can see the smoke from the house chimney and the stars then delete this layer after you have cropped.  This won’t matter if you are saving as a jpeg on a white background.

When you are all done, add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, it was fun to write!  If you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!

Sweetheart

In this tutorial I have used the art of Amy Matthews.
You need a license to use Amy’s art,
available here.

I used two mix and match kits called “Rosette” by
You can get the kits here.
Love these kits they are so pretty, thank you!

You will need a mask, I used HorsePlay’s Pasture mask 10, here.

I used MuRa’s Filter Meister, copies.
This is a free filter here but is not essential.

In this tutorial we will be using the pick tool (deform tool in older versions).
Although the techniques in this tutorial are not difficult to do, they are
difficult to write up so I have made several screenshots.

Font is Angelina, here.

Remember to sharpen your elements after rotating/resizing and also after using the pick/deform tool.  If you are not familiar with this, please check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 60, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 550 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open your tube and paste it as a new layer, resize as needed (if you are using the same tube as me, resize 90%) but don’t apply the drop shadow yet.

Open sb_pmt_MIX N MATCH_Rosette_frame3 and paste as a new layer.  Drag down below the tube and resize 70%.  We will some place some other elements into position and then come back to this.

Open sb_pmt_MIX N MATCH_Rosette_print 1 and paste as a new layer.  Drag down below the frame, resize 80% and place in position.

Open sb_pmt_MIX N MATCH_Rosette_print 3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize also 80% and place in position.

Open PDS_R-heart 1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 10% and  apply MuRa’s Filter Meister, copies with the settings on my screenshot below.  If you don’t have this filter, you can duplicate the heart and rotate the copies.  Resize again 80%, erase any of the hearts that incomplete or not positioned well and apply the drop shadow.

Click on the frame to activate it and then activate your pick/deform tool.  Check out my screenshots below if you don’t know where to find it.

 Pick Tool:

Deform tool:

When you activate this tool, nodes will appear around the frame. We can push or pull the nodes to alter the perspective of the frame.  First we want to widen the frame at the bottom.  Hold down your Ctrl key and pull out the node on the bottom, right hand corner (holding down the Ctrl key at the same time will pull out both bottom corners equally).  Your frame should look now something like my screenshot below.

Next, release the Ctrl key and push down on the centre node at the top.  Unsharp mask when you are done as this tool makes things pretty blurry. Your frame should now look something like this.

Finally, rotate the frame 15 degrees to the left and resize 90%, again unsharp mask.  This is how your frame should look now.

Select inside each part of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10.  Open sb_pmt_MIX N MATCH_Rosette_pp3 and copy.  Make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.

Duplicate your tube and flip the duplicate, drag it down so its between the frame and the paper and place in position.  Again select the interior of each part of the frame, expand the selection as before and invert it,  activate the copy tube and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect and lower the opacity to around 35.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame.  Close off all your layers apart from the copy tube, frame and paper and merge visible, reopen your closed layers. You can now apply the drop shadow to the main tube.   Phew! Hope you are still with me lol!

Open PDS_R-ribbon2 and paste as a new layer.  This should be just above your merged layer.  Resize 85%, place in position and apply the drop shadow. Erase a little on the left hand end so it looks like its going over the edge of the frame.

Open PDS_R-scatter 1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_R-flower3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_R-flower4 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open PDS_R-paper9 and copy.  Click on your white background layer and then make a new layer, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.

When you are done, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.   I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!

Every Witch Way

In this tutorial I used a tube called Halloween Jester and
matching kit Every Witch Way by
You can purchase both items separately or as a bundle here
(both are on offer at the time of writing this tutorial).

You will also need a mask, I used Monti’s circle mask, here.

Font is an unfortunate event, here.

Remember to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating as otherwise they will be a little blurry; check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used gemini_everywitchway_paper4.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection and apply the mask.  Resize 80%.

Open gemini_everywitchway_frame2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75% and move up and to the right a little.

Open gemini_everywitchway_paper4 again and copy.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, do not deselect.

Open your tube, mirror, copy and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, position inside the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Open gemini_everywitchway_cobweb and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position on the frame (there will be a gap on the left hand side but this will be covered by the main tube), apply the drop shadow.  Your tag should look something like my screenshot below.

Open gemini_everywitchway_squiggle3 and paste as a new layer.  Drag down so its just above the mask layer and place in position.  No shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_starscatter and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_tree and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_ghost and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, drag down below the tree, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube again, undo the mirror, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_leaves and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, drag down below the main tube, place in position on the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_branch2 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_branch1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position, erase the bottom of the stalk that is below the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_jackolantern and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_fallenberries2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, rotate 90 degrees to the left and then mirror, drag down below the jackolantern, place in position, erase the bottom of the stalk that shows below the lantern and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_fallenberries1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_fabricflower and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position behind the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_flower1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_crimped ribbon and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75% and rotate 90 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_broom and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_devilcupcake and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_everywitchway_hootowl and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your elements and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, open genimi_everywitchway_sparkles2, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 90%, mirror and flip, erase some of the sparkles so they look like they are wrapped around the tube.

Crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.

Open gemini_everywitchway_spider and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, place in position on your name and apply the drop shadow.

When you are done, export your tag a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  I would, as always, love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
