Cowgirls Have More Fun

In this tutorial I used the tube “Sheer Imagination”
from layered pack 42 by
Barbara Jensen.
You can purchase the tube at

The kit I used was inspired by
Jennifer Janesko September 2011 by
and can be purchased at

You will also need a mask, I used mask 141 by

The tutorial includes instructions for the
text using the font Impact
which comes with Windows.

Please check out my “About my tutorials” page before starting, thank you.

I used a drop shadow, unless otherwise specified, of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 80, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and fill with white.

Open el5 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and rotate 90 degrees to the right.  Select the interior of the left part of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20.

Open pp5 and paste as a new layer, resize 80%, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, position in the frame and again hit delete to remove the excess, deselect and apply the drop shadow.  If you are using one of Barbara’s layered tubes, duplicate it and close the original, pick your layers and copy merged.  I resized my tube 75%.  Duplicate the paper layer below the tube and, keeping it in the same position, drag it up above the tube then change the blend mode to “Overlay”.  Close out the white background layer and el5 and merge visible, re-open the closed layers.  Duplicate the merged layer, mirror it and position it in the right hand part of the frame.  Apply a drop shadow to the frame of vertical and horizontal 0, opacity 100, blur 10, repeat the drop shadow.

Open el6 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, drag down below the merged layer and rotate 90 degrees in either direction, then duplicate,  mirror and flip the duplicate and drag it above the first copy.  Using my tag for reference, arrange the two elements behind the merged layer (they will overlap).  Open el3, paste as a new layer and bring to the top, position in the centre of the two copies of el6 and erase the right side of the top copy of el6 hiding the join behind the bow (no need to worry about the bottom as this will be covered), merge the top copy down onto the bottom copy, apply the last drop shadow and repeat it as before.  Apply a drop shadow to the bow on the original settings.

Open el12, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 35%, drag down below the bow, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el16 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, drag down to just above the background layer, place in position and apply the drop shadow.   Your tag should now look something like my screenshot below.

Open el13 and paste as a new layer (it should be above e16)..   Resize 55%, place in position on the left, duplicate mirror and position on the right, apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open el20, paste as a new layer and drag above the merged layer with your tubes.   Resize 60%,  place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el15, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el14 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el4 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65% and position on the left, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the right.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open el11 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 55% and position on the left, again duplicate, mirror and position on the right.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open el7 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el10 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el2b and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, drag down below all the flowers and position on the left, duplicate, mirror and move over to the right.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open el9, paste as a new layer and bring to the top for now.  Resize 60%, duplicate and close off the duplicate.  Drag the original copy to above the merged layer with your tubes but below the frame and position on the left, erase the part that shows inside the frame and apply the drop shadow.  Open the duplicate copy, flip and mirror it, duplicate it and hide the duplicate.  Drag the original copy down below the lamp and position on the right, erase the long sprig that goes across the tube and apply the drop shadow.  Open the closed copy, flip it, drag down to just above the ribbons, erase most leaving just the little on the ribbons and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open the font and type your name, it doesn’t matter what colour you use, I used size 36 but I think sizes come up differently with different versions of Paint Shop.  While your text is still a vector, pull on the nodes to get it a size you are happy with.   Turn the font into a raster layer, select it, float and de-float it.  Open pp5 again, paste it as a new layer and resize it 80%. Position the paper nicely in the selection, invert it and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect and delete the original text layer.   Apply an inner bevel to the text as my screenshot below, apply the drop shadow and then drag the butterfly up above the text and position it.

Open pp5 again, click on the white background layer to activate it, select all and paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Duplicate the mask, flip it and move it over to the left, duplicate this copy, mirror and move over to the right.

When you are done, crop your tag, add your copyright information and then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.
