Wishing You Were Here

In this tutorial I used the tube “Wishing You Were Here” by
Barbara Jensen.
This tube is from the latest pack 44 and can be purchased at

I used the gorgeous kit “Parlous-Vouz Francais?” by
The kit can also be found at

You will need two masks, the
and mask 79 by

For the rain I used
but can use the noise filter in Paint Shop if you prefer.
You will also need Animation Shop.

I used the font

Please check out my “About my tutorials” page before starting, thank you.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 80, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and fill with white.

Open pp7 and copy, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 95%.

Open 5a and paste as a new layer.   Resize 55% and position on the right, select the interior with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10.

Open pp1 and copy, make a new layer below 5a and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  We will come back to this later.

Open 14 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 70%, drag down below the frame and paper layers and position on the right of the frame, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the left, apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open the tube, duplicate it and close the original.  Pick the tube with the window having no transparency, choose your clothing and accessory options, copy merged, paste it as new layer on your canvas and bring it to the top.  Resize 70%, erase the bottom piece of frame below her hand,  place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 12 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, drag down below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 10 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 8 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 70%, drag down below the clock and the flower and position on the right, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the left, apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open 11 and paste as a new layer.   Drag up to just below the tube, resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 15 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45% and position on the left, duplicate mirror and position on the right, apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open 29, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Mirror, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 3a and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 30 and paste as a new laser.   Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 23 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers now and make any adjustments.

Open 13, duplicate and close the original.   Resize 70% making sure the box “Resize all layers” is not checked and then apply the 20/20 mask to it.  Copy and paste on your main canvas and place in position so it’s just above the tube.  If you still have any harsh lines at the sides, dab around them with your erasor brush on opacity 10 until they are blended in.  Erase the part over the tube’s arm so it looks as it the arm is above the element.  You can delete the image we put the mask on.

Open the close up tube, duplicate it and close the original.  Pick your layers, merge visible and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 70%, drag down so it’s between the frame and the paper layers and place in position.  Select the interior of the frame and expand the selection as you did before, invert it, activate the tube and hit delete to remove the excess.  Apply the drop shadow to the tube and the frame and change the blend mode on the tube to “Luminance (Legacy)”.

Go back to the close up tube.  Mirror it and resize it 60%, again making sure the “Resize all layers” box is not checked.  Apply the 20/20 mask to it twice, then copy it and position on your canvas so it’s just above the mask and lower the opacity to around 75.

Now crop your tag,  add your copyright information and text and we will continue with the animation.

Set your selection tool to rectangle with feather set to 10 and draw a rectangle on your canvas something like my screenshot below.  When you draw the selection, make it smaller because the feather will enlarge it but we need the feather so the rain blends in.

Make a new layer immediately above the left hand close up layer and fill it with black.  Deselect, then duplicate this layer twice and close off the top two copies.

On the first copy apply DSB Flux “Bright Noise” with intensity set to 100 and the “Mix” button checked.  Then apply Motion Blur with angle set to 45 and strength to 40 (Adjust – Blur – Motion Blur).   Change the blend mode to “Screen”.

Close off this layer and open the first copy, apply the Bright Noise again hitting the “Mix” button once to randomize the noise, apply the Motion Blur and change the blend mode.  Repeat with the second copy.

Right click on your tag and “Copy Merged”, open Animation Shop and “Paste as a New Animation”.  Back in Paint Shop, close off this rain layer and open the one below it, again copy and paste in Animation Shop “Before Current Frame”.  Repeat with third layer.  Change the animation speed to 15 (Animation – Frame Properties), run through the optimization wizard and save as a gif.
