Self Affliction

In this tutorial I used the tube “Self Afflication” by Sheena Pike.
You need a license to use Sheena’s art, available at

I used a kit inspired by this tube from
The kit is also available at
This tube and kit were my pick for my birthday gift.

I used mask 63 from Simone at
And photo mask 2013 from

Font of choice.

I used a drop shadow of vertical 0, horizontal 5, opacity 85, blur 15.

Open a new transparent canvas 700 by 650 pixels and fill  with white.

Make a new layer, select all, paste paper 5 into the selection, deselect and apply Simone’s mask.

Paste Ems’ mask as new layer and resize 18%.  Select the mask, float and defloat it, make a new layer and paste paper 2 into the selection, deselect and delete the original black mask layer.

Paste frame 3, resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste frame 2 and resize 60%.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand, expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it and paste paper 3 into the selection, deselect, apply the drop shadow to the frame, merge it down onto the paper and move into position.

Paste the tube, resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 15, resize 35% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, drag below the merged frame layer and place in position.  We will come back to this.

Paste element 1 above the merged frame layer, resize 85%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 20, resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 6, resize 50% and duplicate, rotate the copy 40 degrees to the left, duplicate it again,  mirror this copy and place in position around the bottom of the tube.   Duplicate the original copy again, mirror it, position at the top below the clock and apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste element 8 and resize 20%, position on top at the bottom of the tube, duplicate, mirror the copy and positon below the tube at the top, duplicate that copy and position behind the tube on the right apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste element 7, resize 18% and duplicate, position both behind the tube, one at the top and one at the side on the left, apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste element 9 below the top rose, resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 11, resize 25% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, position on the top and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 19, resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 12, resize 20% and flip, drag below the ribbon, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 14, resize 20%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 10, resize 15%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 16 on the top, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check your layers and make any adjustments.

Go back to element 15 and bring it to the top but don’t move it.  Duplicate it and erase one part on each copy.  Paste the tube, resize it 55%, position it over the element, duplicate it and then close off one copy.

Open the right had part of the frame, click anywhere on your canvas outside of the element with your magic wand to make a selection,  hit delete on the tube and deselect.    Lower the opacity of the tube to around 65 and carefully erase the part that is overlapping onto the cream border of the element.

Open the second copy of the tube and repeat the above with the left hand part of the element erasing the tube that overlaps onto the torn edge also.  Merge each tube down onto the element and then merge the two merged layers together, apply the drop shadow and move down to below the frame.

When you are done, crop your tag, add your copyright information and text and export on a transparent background as a png.
